Any comic writers here-can you please help me with this idea?

How about something simpler: Have your villain wanting to imitate other villains because he admires them and wants to learn their ways. He thinks they're cool. He looks up to them as heroes of a sort. And through their examples, he comes to understand the value of money in controlling people.
